To my dearest turtle

To my dearest turtle,
How are you today? I hope you are working hard out on your assignments. You told me that you have four assignments before the holiday. You will be able to finish them all with flair! I am sure of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed our day together listening to the guitar duo. It is the hours that I spend with you that are precious, my turtle. You are so lovely in your dark shirt...it feels so smooth.
You are going over the Tasman to enjoy the sunshine coast and warm sea water. You are taking the current from New Zealand to Melbourne, Autsralia. You will sit on the beach and get tanned. You will shop till you drop. You will be happy in the summer holiday, won't you? Don't worry about what will happen later, just enjoy the hours of your life. The sand will not change until infinities and the time will slip through your fingertips. The rain will come again, and the sky will change its colour, but my love to you will never change. It will always be there in the air, following you and guarding you against harm.

Seashell Number 2 - Kung Fu Hustle

I don't care what other people think about this film. I love it. There are those blockbuster films that are so annoy and crudely done that after you come out of the theatre, you forget about it. Then there is a film like Kung Fu that will stay in your mind because it is so different to all the others, a dark stone in a bottle of white.
A funny film, a parady to The Matrix and many old matrial arts movies in Hong Kong, Kung Fu follows the steps of a unknown guy from the city full of sins and money to the poorest apartments in 1940s.
What does a fat landlady, a thin landlord, a sissy tailor, a quiet chef, a coolie, a nobody, and an old crazy man have in common? They are all masters in martial arts.
The choreography is great. The color and the cartoonish presentation of the story are mesmerising. You are treated with quick cut and straight forward story.
We are living in a world where reality and imagination blends and blurs our vision. Kung Fu is so unrealistic, yet the emotion in this film is so real that you can cry and laugh long after you come out of the theatre. There is love. There is friendship. There is fear. There is rich and there is poor. There is inequality, and there is justice.
Just feel that this movie is a little bit too short because it is so good that I didn't want it to end. I just want to live in that dream world where the good guys will win and the bad guys will lose.

Seashell number 1 - The Legacy (Virginia Woolf)

Virginia Woolf's three pager The Legacy is a great little piece about English love. It is set like a detective story. You believe that the hero is in love with his wife, who recently died and left a legacy to all her friends. He is totally unaware of what had happened in her life before her death because he had been busy as a politician. He had been ignorant until after the funeral when he is left alone with all the things that she had in front of her.
He has been given the legacy of her diary. A happy marriage she had from the beginning: travelling, listening to speeches he made in a big hall... He was her God, he was the centre of her universe. However, towards the end of her life, she met a mysterious B.M., initial of a man who is possibly a left wing activist who thinks that she should change for the better. Who is B.M.? This mysterious person is soon transformed from just friend into someone who is more intimate. She dined with him alone when he is not in town.
What is happening? The man is totally clueless until his past finally catch up with him: his wife is having an affair with B.M., and B.M. is his wife's secretary's brother.
B.M. and his wife have killed themselves because their liason is forbidden. Their affair will destroy this man, his career in the parliament, and will destroy each other's life. They have no children: there is certain amount of regret in his tone, but the reason may also be apparent: she is still a child.
A short piece showing the love between two person can be so disatrous. The man will be forever affected but unable to do anything because he didn't do anything before her death. His career is saved, but his heart is not.
This short story reminds me of Romeo and Juliet, the couple who came from rival families. The woman in this story comes from the upper class, with good breeding and sensible brain. She wants to do something in her life to make the life of others different so she goes and help the poor. However, can she really change? No. She is unable to give up her easy life to be with someone she loves. B.M. was unable to do anything, either. Is it because he is poor? Is it because he had to work to earn money so he killed himself to be with her after death? We are not given the details, but we can picture him in our mind. He is a ragged man, wearing old waistcoat and dirty hat, possibly no hat because he is a socialist. He does not have a proper job because he does not want to work for the upper class, but he does not have the labour skills to do the hard job, either. He probabaly come from a middle class family, but his parents didn't leave him much to go by.
I like this story because it is short and to the point. It finishes at the right point, not revealing much so you can be imaginative. Virginia triumphes again.

One raining afternoon

One raining afternoon, I went to university to wait for my friend to turn up to see me. I can't explain the expectation that fills my heart, it is like a full cup of delicious coffee. I can't keep my eyes on the screen when he walks up to me. We start talking. It is like magic. I stop pretending to do any work and stand up with him so we can walk together and enjoy this chilly afternoon together.
He is sick. He has too much pressure these two months, doing homework, solving problems, having tests and exams. Everything seems to pile on him and driving him up the wall. That's why he is sick. His body is telling him to stop, but he can't. He has to face the challenge and stand up to it.
I am glad that I came to see him. We walk together to the clinic. Not wanting to read any magazines because they don't appeal to me anymore, I enter the doctor's office with him. Get a steam bath, the soothing doctor says.

Glass shoes

Once upon a time there was a girl who was poor. Her fairy godmother gave her the pair of exquisite glass shoes so she can attend the prince's ball. She turned the pumpkin into the carriage and the mice became horses and horsemen. When the clock struck twelve, the carriage turned back to the pumpkin and horses back to mice. The girl ran down the stairs and lost one of her glass shoe on the stairs...

The story of Cinderella had captured thousands of girl's heart, including most of my clients. They come to seek that perfect pair of shoes. Comfortable shoes, impossible shoes with high heels that are definitely not healthy to your feet, boots that are sexy, and sneakers so they can run away from unsuitable boyfriends.

Dawn and Dusk

Dawn and dusk
Prologue
I have dreamt of living a life that is simpler, slower and more pleasant. When morning finally comes and the dream fades into the background, I know my life will go on as it is. Murders and conspiracies, misfortunes and unpleasant dealings follow me everywhere I go. This is the life I chose to live, and it is not for the faint hearted. I had wanted to lead a life that is normal like other women, but I suppose it was predetermined even before my birth. I can’t choose my parent, and sometimes, I am glad that they are who they are, and I am who I am. Sometimes, when I can stop and think, I fear the darkness that follows me. I fear that one day I will end up dying slowly in a black ally, with blood pooling around me, helpless to do anything to change my fate. Sometimes, I feel dying is the glorious way of escaping this harsh life. I intend to have some fun first.
The weather is extremely well. The blue sky greets me as I fry a sunny egg and pour orange juice into the glass. Toasts jump out of the toaster and my breakfast is served. Changing into my gray business suit, I check my bag before locking the door. My roses are still competing for the crown of being the largest, sweetest, and most attractive queen. The lawn needs mowing, but it will have to wait.
Backing the Toyota Camry out of the driveway, the road is still empty as I leave the tree-lined street and enter the newly awaken city.
Dawn and Dusk stands formidably in the middle of the main street in the city. Dark glasses exterior conceals any activity from the inside to the outside, giving us some privacy. To the unsuspecting public, we are just another corporate entity that is driven forward by greed and creed. To the informed few, we are a spy agency with funding coming from Dawn and Dusk, Inc. Dawn and Dusk is essentially a seafood and shipping company that has resources all over the world. It is easy for us to do any spy work because if there’s fish, then we are there.
Cameron Brown Senior first set up Dawn and Dusk after the Second World War. He owns a seafood company in Tampa. His son, Cameron junior, is taking care of the company now.
The glass door revolves as I push through into the cool interior. She smiles as I nod good morning. She hasn’t stopped typing.
“Mr. Brown is waiting to see you.”
Cameron’s office is usually squeaky clean, but today it’s in a mess. That usually means trouble overseas.
“Celine, how much do you know about Angelina Simmons?”
Angelina Simmons is a famous actress who had made her name in Hollywood by starring in a historical war movie The Conqueror. She transformed her former vase status somewhat and has earned accolade. Her latest movie, Dream World, has been nominated for the Oscars. She is certainly on the way to superstardom.
“I have heard rumours about her. Why do you ask?”
Angelina has became a model in Starstruck Inc. Starstruck Inc. is a model agency and a front for an international spy ring. In other word, a company that is similar to Dawn and Dusk, only they recruit stars, and we recruit normal people.
“Two hours ago, Angelina has been kidnapped from Heathrow Airport. I need you to get to England as soon as possible and find her.”
“I will do my best.”
“Bring yourself back in one piece. I want no drama.”
Drama seems to follow me around. I can’t help it. Closing his door when I leave, the airplane ticket is sitting neatly on my desk. Taking the ticket and the file on my desk, I leave Dawn and Dusk as more people come into work. The traffic is getting worse by the minute when my car speed towards the airport in the countryside.
I wish this time I will be able to come back without too much trouble, but I have a hunch that I may not come back at all. Why should I care so much? I choose to live dangerously and this is a small price to pay.
The plane safely leaves the ground. Silently waving goodbye and whistling a tune, I close my eyes as the sky caress the white plane in the cloud. I will be there in no time.

London, Heathrow Airport, two hours ago
My dream to work with the delicious Sean Thompson has finally come true, and I have arrived in London without too much trouble. I wish I look better, but as travel don’t agree with me, I wish the cameramen will spare me before I freshen up.
They are like rabid dogs. I hate them, but you can’t escape them. They are everywhere you go, following you like a plague that wouldn’t go away. You have to be very careful about what you wear and what you say. They note everything down. I should get used to it now, but I can’t.
Dean has been an angel. I don’t know what to do without him. He has made sure everything is in order so I don’t have to worry about a thing. When he said he couldn’t come to England with me, I almost fainted. He said I am a big girl now. I should be able to take care of things. I wish I could.
I would feel better once I leave the airport and get to the hotel. I am sure of it, but the tiredness finally gets to me in the comfy taxi. I fall asleep once my head touches the soft cushion.
The next thing I know is that I am not at the hotel. I don’t know where I am. A black bag covers my head and my hands are tied behind my back. Is this some kind of joke? This is so dreadful. I haven’t even been activated as an agent yet.
I can feel my bag beside me. Dean has packed for me before I leave. Yes, that must be the reason why I am here. He has packed a surprise for me. I have been kidnapped for something he has packed in my bag and I have absolutely no idea what it is.
If I survive this ordeal, I must ask Dean NOT to pack for me in the future. He will only get me into trouble.
“Get up, you lazy bitch.”
A man kicked me in the stomach. I struggle to stand up with my feet bound.
“What do you want?”
“Shut up and listen.”
A tape clicks as the man leaves the room. His footsteps echo eerily in the room.
“Open your bag and take everything out of your bag. Put everything on the ground. When you finish, sit down and wait for further instruction.”
A mechanical voice fills the room. It’s shrill and cold, reveals no emotion.
I can feel my clothes falling onto the ground. A satin dress for the dinner is in my hand, which I will not be able to attend. A pair of Capri pants and a white shirt has been folded neatly into a pile. These are my favourite. My makeup has been packed in a bag. More clothes, then my music box. I open and let the beautiful tune into the room. The jewelry is all in order. Diamond earrings, necklaces, and bracelets are tucked away in the compartment. There is an extra item in the box, a brooch. It is shaped like a flower.
This must be the item they are after. I close the lid and carefully placed the box on the ground. What are they going to do? Are they going to take the brooch and kill me? I hope they will let me live.
I can’t be more wrong.

London, the film set for Dream World
George Simmons is waiting for her wife to turn up on set. He knows that she is never punctual, but a one-hour delay is almost too stylish even for Angelina. Something must have happened. He has to call Dean.
“Dean, Angelina is a no show. Have you talked to her after she arrived?”
“No, George. I haven’t heard from her since she got on the plane. Are you sure that she’s not just late?”
“No. It’s impossible. It’s been an hour after her starting time. You have to call Cameron.”
“I will do that right away. We must expect the worst.”
“You mean that the map and the key are missing.”
“Yes, she doesn’t know that she is carrying them, but she is. We must assume they are compromised.”
“That’s dreadful. Do you have another copy of the map?”
“Yes, but if they found the key then we are done.”
“Let’s hope she is good enough to protect these two items. I will call Cameron.”
“All right. Hope you find her.”
“I hope I do.”
Sean Thompson is ready for action. George will have to make the phone call to Cameron, and then he will have to film the York scene first, and then film the scene with Angelina now. That is if they can find her at all. If they can’t locate her, then they will have to find another actress who will fit the role. He hopes that Dawn and Dusk will be able to find Angelina for him because this movie needs her. Without a real star, the movie is sure to bomb and he will never be able to find another job again. His life is at the stake here.
He will try to help Dawn and Dusk to find Angelina. No matter what happens, the show must go on and the lead must be found.

Chapter 1 The missing star
Sean Thompson is a handsome young man with a perfect athletic body. God has blessed him with the gift of acting and good looks, so his rise in Hollywood is no surprise to anyone. Dream World is a great story. He liked the script the first time he picked it up, and is more than willing to try out for the role of Donovan Lancaster. Donovan is first knight who lives in York. Edward French will play Michael Cunningham, the princess’s fiancĂ©. Steven White will play Fraser Wood, knight in the court. Damien Mark Mason will play Toby Englewood, the King’s council. Angelina Simmons will play Princess Gabrielle and her twin. Donna Avery will play the Queen and Tony Rathbone will play the dying King.
He knows that Angelina is late to the set and they are supposed to start shooting the first scene where he confronts her and Michael. That will have to wait now. What has happened to her? He wonders. He can’t do anything if she doesn’t show up.
“Is Angelina coming today?”
“No. We don’t know where she is. I have called the police. She may have been kidnapped.”
“What? Really? Who is the last one she contacted?”
“It had to be Dean, her manager.”
“So she left Los Angeles safely?”
“Yes, it seems that she has disappeared after getting off the plane in Heathrow Airport. She definitely left Los Angeles because the people at the airport confirmed that. We are trying to track her down here.”
“That’s awful. What if something happen to her?”
“Exactly. We don’t want that to happen.”
“No. I hope she is okay. I don’t care if this movie doesn’t go ahead, but I want to know that she is safe.”
“Yes. If she doesn’t come back, then this movie is not going to be filmed. I don’t think we can survive this time.”
“No, we can’t. How much have you spent already?”
“Quite a lot. We’ve made the set, the costume, and we’ve got people over in France filming as well.”
“I know. It’s going to bring us all down.”
“I have also called Cameron.”
“Is he going to help us?”
“Yes. He will help us to find Angelina.”
“Thank God. You have gone to the right people. I hope she will be found.”
“Yes, and as soon as possible. We can’t afford to lose any time now.“

My life is not a fairy tale

Once upon a time, there was a prince who lives in a castle. She has been put into a deep sleep after getting pricked by a needle. She is waiting for a handsome knight to come to rescue her from her sleep.
When will the prince come to rescue the beautiful princess? When will he break her out of this stupor? When will they live happily ever after?
I wish that my story is fairy tale, but it isn't. I am not a beautiful princess who lives in a castle. I have not been put to sleep by good witches who protect me. I doubt that I will ever get rescued by a prince, but then again, I may be wrong.
Here it goes. Hold on to your seat and turn the pages to find out what is happening in my life. In the end, you can decide whether my life is a good one or a bad one, but not until you finish this story. Be patient.

Stalking should be made illegal

Stalking in any form should be made illegal, for example, it should be made illegal on internet to search about a person's e-mail and private address. If you are smart enough, you will never leave any traces of your home address or telephone number on net. However, some people leave their details on because they want to attract stalkers. Doctors. Dentists. Pharmacists. There are also people who make up identities because I did a search on rugby players and found one. Of course his detail is not real.
Physically stalking someone is illegal but if you can't find the person, and he/she does not know you have been to his/her place, then your act is not illegal. Or is it? Can you be found out if that person is unaware of your presence? What about checking their mailboxes? New Zealand post has done something naughty recently. They send out posties to check other people's houses. If they need painting, then the posties will report back to the paint company to send ad to these houses. That should count as stalking. However, New Zealand Post has discovered this is a serious breach of privacy so stop doing that. Good on ya.
What about stalking using e-messenger, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and AOL? As long as you don't get on line, you will not be stalked. E-mail, by the same analogy, should be save as well. You can always have a second e-mail handy.
Privacy, at this day and age, is sincerely dead. Your phone number is listed in the Yellow Pages. Your address is listed as well. Who knows when The Terminator will find your house and come to eliminate you? Who knows when The Borg will come to assimilate you into their race? It's scary, but it is so easy to find someone now it's not funny.
Can we actually have any peace?
Do a google search of yourself. Don't be too proud if you find yourself because somewhere, some time, someone is on the internet doing the same search as you. Delete it.
If you are paranoid about not being found, don't list your phone number and address in the telephone book. That does have its downs because like the Telecom ad states, if you don't list your mobile, when your car breaks down and has no petrol, there's no way your relatives can contact you. There's also no way of trying to tell you there's no parachute in your bag. Haha. Seriously, that's life threatening.
Also, don't leave your bank account number out anywhere on net. That's dangerous. This also applies to Visa and other credit card numbers, Eftpos numbers, your pin number, you password, and so on and so forth. You never know when your account is going to empty. That's why I always worry about people in movies who transfer their money into foreign accounts. Even though they are major crime heads or thugs most of the time, but what if, at the same time, someone hack into their computer and take all their money? Wouldn't that upset your master plan of transferring your money to Swiss Account? Haha. Gotcha!

Admiration of the opposite sex

Opposite attracts. People are like magnets, you have a certain feeling about the others, no matter good or bad. Your childhood sweetheart may turn out to be a big jerk. Your long time friend may become your future partner. Who knows what's around the corner?
People who fall in or out of love know the feeling. You can't live without them. You have to tell them everything even though it's just about a new handbag that you've brought. The other will listen to you as if the handbag is Prada and must compare price with you. He will be there when you are shopping, swiping the Visa card without breaking a sweat. Why? Because he loves you. He doesn't care if you are stupid. He doesn't care if you are smart. As long as you love him in return, he will do anything for you. You will cook for him no matter how late he comes home. Fill up the tub with hot water. You will clean his house. You will drive him to places. You will ask him to do impossible things like getting a rock from the moon. You will bring up his kids. That's what love is all about.
Before Valentine's Day, let's review the present status of the relationship between men and women around the world. At least the part of the world where I live in.
Most of my friends have a partner or a boy/girlfriend. They are happy with their relationship, if they are not, they are breaking up with them. The people who are single are reasonably happy, but some are trying to find the one in the crowd. Congratulation to those who found their love ones, good on you. Work hard on it. Relationship can't be taken for granted. If you've sow the seed, you have got to water it so it will grow up and flower in the spring and summer. You have to pull out the weeds around the flower so it will get all the nutrients in the ground. You have to get rid of the dead plant in the winter so you can sow the seed again. Love is a lot like a garden, it requires tender loving care.
A lot of people don't take care of their relationships. That's why you break up. Don't expect the other half to wait around for you forever, that's not gonna happen.
So have I got any advice for those people who are trying to find a partner? Yes, I have. Don't take my word if you know how to do it because you know the answer in the deepest of your heart.
1. Find someone who is easy to talk to. I think communication is the most important thing in the relationship. Try to find someone who is easy to talk to. Try to find someone who is truthful. Find someone who will tell you what he/she did and not hide anything. It will be easier to get to know this person, and more you know about them, the more you will like/dislike them.
2. Find someone who is similar/disimilar to you. Yes, this is what happens. Sometimes you want to find a person who is exactly like you, but you may get too bored with this person and long for someone who is different. That's why foreign lovers are in such high demand. Someone who is from a different place. Someone who is from a different background. Someone exotic. However, you may find them so exotic and dispicable that you will want to go back to someone who is more normal. Having the same interest often helps. Watching movies. Reading books. Riding. Swimming. Drawing. You name it, you will find someone out there who likes doing what you do.
3. Find a reliable person. Being reliable may make a person boring, but reliability is very important throughout the life. Someone who is never on time is not reliable. Someone who does not have a job is not reliable. Someone who doesn't have a bank account with money in it is not reliable. Someone who make empty promises is not reliable. Reliability brings stability, and stability brings a good life. Of course some people doesn't want to stay in one place all the time, but a reliable person will go with you to the end of the world because they will always be there for you no matter what. They won't throw stones into the well when you are at the bottom, they will pull you up. They won't let you get lost in the woods and will always check if you are walking too slowly. It's a matter of life and death, so find someone who is reliable.
4. Find a nice looking person. Yes, I mean it. It's important. I don't mean those people who have movie star looks. A person who looks straight and trustworthy. A person who has confidence and stand out in a crowd. A person who believe in themselves. All these qualities make you look good. Tidy and clean. Also, it makes your life easier to look at nice looking person. (I am so shallow.)
5. Find someone who you can work with. That's important because you don't want to fight all the time when you are renovating your kitchen. You don't want someone to pick on you when you have spent three hours in the kitchen making a soup. You don't want someone who doesn't mow the lawn or cut the tree. You don't want someone who will not hand over their money so you guys can buy a house togehter. No. You don't want that kind of person who is selfish and arrogant. You want someone who is willing to share the glory with you when you succeed. You want someone who will cry with you when you are sad, not someone who is cold and distant.
I can't think of any good qualities you can find, so I will end this article with a piece of advice that I have been given by my sister:
"Stop looking for the person who you love. They will come and find you."
Exactly. When you stop looking for love, they will find you.

Take a stab at the wild direction

The gnome is still struggling, but I quickly withdraw from the helpless animal. Let its body collapes in the fading sun, I walk towards another one.
The green field is filled with gnomes that move to my rhythm. There is no place to hide. It's much cooler now. My sleeve is soaked with blood now as they drop one by one.
The castle looms large as the shadow close in when the sun finally goes down. The forest across the field is as dark as the night. The Southern cross comes out from behind the thick cloud as the moon slide smoothly in the darkness. You can almost feel the air. It envelopes my cloak as I open the castle door.
Move quickly across the hall, I notice the forms glide in the parallel universe. A very young Harry Potter is walking toward his dormitory. Teachers are still finishing their dinner. I open the door of Hogwarts castle as my tired hands can no longer kill any more gnomes in the field.
Say hello to the road that goes towards Penacles. Occasionally, you will be able to catch the glimpse of a rabbit on the road. Most of the time, you see people travelling from Penacles quickly towards where the mob are congregating.
Yes, this is a virtual world filled with mobs that you can kill. Otherwise, how can a student of biology kill gnomes and have tired hands? You can see people from all walks of life playing here. Computer programers. University lecturers. Students. Secretaries. Managers.

Life on other planets?

After reading articles in New Scientist, it made me wonder that maybe there was life on other planets. Afterall, they may be older than us so we have never had the chance of meeting a Martian.
Presence of water is the indicator that life may once be present on Mars surface. Or they may live in the soil. Who knows? So exciting. Scientists also claim that rocks may contain some fossils of life. Wait until they collect the rocks from Mars and trying to do an Indiana Jones on Mars. Isn't that exciting? Next time, NASA will send a maned mission to Mars so we don't have to watch movies about going to Mars anymore.
Isn't there a book somewhere called: Men are from Mars? Who knows if it's true or not. If Mars was once habitable, then we may come from there. Maybe not. No one can dispute that life may come from outer space, so why not Mars?
I suppose people will think me crazy, but before we have enough evidence otherwise, we can let out imagination run wild.
Wish they can collect more data in the future so we know more about the red planet. The results may show there wasn't any life on Mars, but who cares, let's find out more about Mars. We can learn from the atmosphere and the soil of Mars about the past and the future of Earth. We can learn about whether organisms will or will not be able to adapt to such harsh environment. We can look at the soil and try to solve the puzzle of Mars's history. We can also find minerals and other resources on Mars so one day we can live there.
Dreams are just dreams when you are thinking them, but it will become reality if you follow a logic path to solve the problems. Hope they success!

Pets

Recently we have acquired a pet-setting job from our friend's neighbour. They have an old guinea pig that slowly lose its fur on the front legs. Even though it is five years old and eating towards destruction, it's extremely cute.
I think mum's opinion about pet is quite philosophical:
"I can't even take care of you so why should I get a pet?"
We haven't had a pet since we moved from Taiwan. It's such a shame because pets are friends who will not argue with you. It generally listen to your problem, eat a lot and sleep through the day. The famous Harry Potter has an owl, his friend Ron has a rat, Hermione has a cat, and pets have featured in films and books through out the centuries.
Snoopy, the lovable character in cartoon Peanuts, is a pet of Charlie Brown. Its life has touched many hearts around the world. Even after the death of the creator, it continues to capture the heart of young and old. It likes to fly on top of its house as a fighter pilot. I love Snoopy, too.
Pets can be quite annoying sometimes. Iago, the parrot in Aladdin, is a very noisy pet.
In the Simpsons, Santa's Little Helper features in several episodes. It is quite realistic.
Next time, if you ever come across a weird pet, then you should look at the owner. The owner stands out in a crowd as well. Have you ever seen a guy who takes his snake to work? I hope not.
Pet relaxes you. After a hard day at work, you want to sit down in front of your television and do absolutely nothing. You want to hold your cat on your lap and tell it all your problems until its bored stiff. You want to walk your dog in the sun set. You want to run with your dog so the frustration from work can be released. When you are on holiday, you want to leave the city life behind and enjoy some quality time with your children and your pet. You want to leave land behind to catch some fish. You want to take time out.
Pets will always be with you no matter what. You should take care of it. Be gentle to it. They remembers. Just like elephants remember. Take it with you when you are strolling down the street.
Have a nice time with your pet when you can. There are a lot of people who will kill for a pet, but sincerely can't have one for various reasons. Good luck for the people who have pets. Good luck also to people who wants to have pets. Don't over do it, though. You will look weird and stupid.

Dream of infatuation

Keep swimming in the illusion of infatuation
Wave my arms to the sweetest image of you
Drink your soul
Until your facinating scent envelopes my senses
A wisp of dream lingers
Even when my mind is on the brink of realisation
All of you
Is a dangerous lure to my weakness

Blink your eyes
When the next second suddenly arrives
Black and white
Suck all the colour from my mind
To plant a flowering garden of unruly laughter
On my face
To stream tears of happiness
On my cheek

Tell a joke
Like a hook
Pierce my heart
Like a dart
Lure me to the darkness of the night
Breathe in my perfume
Make my head swing

Let the music amuse my soul
Let the magic allure my heart
Drenches it with my infatuation
Soaks it with my imagination
Fills it with the scent of you
Immerses it in the dream that will never end
Even when I realize
You are the unattainable prince of darkness

Love is...

Perhaps love is as tender as the felt blanket that is filled with the picture of HelloKitty. Maybe love is as tough as the beef that mum cooked for five hours. Who knows what love will do around the corner? It may turn into a flower on the side of the road. It may turn into a bunch of daisy beside the hospital bed. It may turn into rain on a thristy land.
Love can certainly turn into a smile, a touch, or even an explaination of which key opens which door on the key chain. It can be a joke that's been told in a noodle shop about an exploding turnip cake. It can be a back glance in the swimming pool. It can be cooking for your sister who is too tired to do anything after a hard day's work.
Love can be silently listening to a boring story. Love can be singing when someone is sad. Love can be read like a poem, but it can not be read like a newspaper because it does not require pages of detail explanations. It may be simple sometimes, but it may also be too complicated so no one understands.
Love can be pushing a pram when someone else is too tired. The hardest way to love is to calm a baby down when its crying for no reason. Dying for your country comes in on the close second. Love, sadly, can also be dying with the one you love. Love can be reading the notebook to your loved ones when they can no longer remember their past. Love can be eating a candle-lit dinner with a stranger who knows when to talk or when to listen. Love can be tucked away nicely in an old leather-bound book, stuck on the school project, inside a small scrapbook, in a thick police file, or on a hand-made card. It can be a tear that's falling from a loving mother or it can be a strong hand of a loving father. It can also be the friendship that does not fade throughout the years. When your hair is of a different colour, when you can't see properly and start to admit to it, when your feet will no longer carry you across the garden easily, and when you feel young inside but look remarkably old outside, maybe you will know the true shape of love, but then again, you may not.
I hope you find love because it may be in a pen, in a letter, in a book, in a newspaper, in a cup of tea, on a chair, on top of the television, inside a fishing bowl, outside the window, or on your hand. It can be anywhere, anything, anyone. I hope you find it.

On Reading

Just in case you forget about how to read a book. These are some suggestions from Dr. Lin Yutang:

From on books and reading:
One should read classics in winter, because then one's mind is more concentrated; read history in summer, because one has more time; read the ancient philosphers in autumn, because they have such charming ideas; and read the collected works of later authors in spring, because then Nature is coming back to life.

A man who knows how to read finds everthing becomes a book wherever he goes: hills and waters are also books, and so are chess and wine, and so are the moon and flowers. A good traveller finds that everything becomes a landscape wherever he goes: books and history are landscapes, and so are wine and poetry, and so are the moon and the flowers.

As for reading and travel, I do not think even twice or five times the period suggested (ten years) would be enough to satisfy my desires. To do so one would have to live three hundred years, as Huang Chiuyen says.

I shall read more of his books and quote more when I find more wise words.

More quotes On Flowers and Women

Beautiful women are better than flowers because they understand human language, and flowers are better than beautiful women because they give off fragrance; but if one cannot have both at the same time, he should forsake the fragrant ones and take the talking ones.

In putting flowers in liver-coloured vases, one should arrange them so that the size and height of the vase match with those of the flowers, while the shade and depth of its colour should contrast with them.

Quotes from Importance of Living by Dr. Lin Yutang

I am sure that Dr. Lin Yutang will mind that I quoted him, but since he is long dead, I will quote some of his wise words from his cool book.

The plum flower makes a man feel high-minded, the orchid makes a man feel secluded, the chrysanthemum makes a man simple-hearted, the lotus makes a man contented, the spring haitang makes a man passionate, the peony makes a man chivalrous, the bamboo makes a man graceful, the pine tree makes a man feel like a recluse, the wutung makes a man clean-hearted, and the willow makes a man sentimental.

If a beauty should have the face of a flower, the voice of a bird, the soul of the moon, the expression of a willow, the charm of an autumn lake, bones of jade and skin of snow, and a heart of poetry, I should be perfectly satisfied.

Talented men who are at the same time handsome, and beautiful ladies who at the same time can write, can never live a long life. This is not only because the gods are jealous of them, but because this type of person is not only the treasure of one generation, but the treasure of all ages, so that the Creator doesn't want to leave them in this world too long, for fear of sacrilege.
